This is a trek that may take many trips to cover, because there is an endless list of highlights. Like Chicago, St.Louis, a visit to the St.Louis Arch is a must, Amarillo, Tucumcari New Mexico. Tucmucari is like a lot of tiny towns on route 66 that are struggling to survive, but it still has a feel, history and style that is still well worth the stop. It is the home of the famous Blue Swallow Motel. Flagstaff is also one of my favorite stops. It is a collage town with again so much style and beauty. Gallup is also a must stop. The Indians in the area make some of the best southwestern jewelry anywhere to be found. I once ate at a old Mexican restaurant there while eating the local Indian artists visited the tables to offer there wares. Some might have fount that annoying but I in joyed it very much. And of course there is the old Kingman Arizona and ending at Santa Monica Ca.
I also would recommend taking a venture off of route 66 and drop south of Flagstaff and visit Sedona Arizona it is just magnificent. It is nestled in a cathedral of the most beautiful red rock Just get a friend, a camera and go.
